Situated on a 15 hectare site the complex attracts over 550,000 visitors each year. When you pass through the entrance to Sovereign Hill it is like stepping back in time, as horse drawn carriages roll along the unpaved streets, and people in period dress make their way busily amongst the buildings, shops and houses that replicate the era.

 

In 1854 one of the most significant events in Ballarat's history "The Eureka Rebellion", "The Blood on the Southern Cross" is now a sound and light show that gives visitors a dramatic representation of The Eureka Stockade Australia's only armed rebellion.
