7 Incredible Things To Do In The Yarra Valley

As trusted providers of event transportation services and tours of some of Victoria’s most iconic landmarks, we often get asked for our recommendations on the best things to see and do in our state. One of the places we love to recommend is the Yarra Valley, simply because it is so picturesque.

But there is so much to do in the Yarra Valley that goes beyond capturing the sights on your camera. In fact, today we are sharing our favourite things to do in the Yarra Valley, and the exciting activities you should add to your bucket list this summer.

Hot air balloon Yarra Valley

#1: Admire the natural beauty of Warbuton

Warburton is a small country town with lots to offer to those who love nature. Our favourite natural sights in and around Warburton include:

  • The Redwood Forest: Located a few kilometres out of Warburton, the forest of over 1400 redwoods is certainly a sight to behold. The tall trees provide the perfect scenery for stunning photography, while the numerous walking tracks will lead you through the forest and down to the nearby river.
  • The rainforest and river walks: With the Yarra River running through Warburton, there are plenty of river walks that begin straight out of town, including the famous swing bridge walk at the Story Reserve. Another way to see the creeks and rivers is through the rainforest viewing platforms that are situated within the Yarra Ranges National Park, which is near Warburton.

#2: Take a ride in a hot air balloon

While ground views are stunning, nothing truly compares to taking in the expanse of the Yarra Valley from above. A hot air balloon ride offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the region, from its countryside to its lush green vineyards and charming towns.

#3: Go fruit picking

Fruit picking is a unique activity that will leave you with a basket of goodies to take home at the end of the day. The Yarra Valley has a handful of dedicated fruit picking sites where you can even meet the farmers and growers of the fresh regional produce, too.

Not sure which fruits are in season? For summer, expect to get a basket full of:

  • Apricots, nectarines, plums and peaches
  • Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries
  • Grapes
  • Cherries
  • Oranges

#4: Visit Steavenson Falls in Marysville

Steavenson Falls is a must-see for passersby and nature lovers alike. At 84m high, Steavenson Falls is one of Victoria’s highest waterfalls.

Located in Marysville, a quaint town similar to Healesville, the base of the falls is easy to get to, with a dedicated car park situated at the end of the 3km road. Alternatively, you can even take the scenic 3.4km walk to the base of the falls straight from the heart of the town.

From the base of the falls, you can then follow the 700m walk that will lead you to a stunning view of the waterfalls.

#5: Explore by bike or foot

For those who want to keep up their fitness this summer, exploring parts of the Yarra Valley by bike or foot is a great itinerary option. There are plenty of bike trails for all kinds of cyclists – whether you are a beginner or a seasoned mountain biker. Along with the biking trails are also a number of scenic walks that you can take at your own pace through rainforests and riverside parks.

#6: Wine and dine at the stunning vineyards

The entire Yarra Valley region is well known for its award-winning, charming and abundant vineyards. In fact, there are so many vineyards that you’ll have a hard time choosing which one to visit. But not to worry: if you’re finding it difficult, you can always book a wine tour that will take you to a selection of the best wineries in the region.

#7: Experience the ‘A Day On The Green’ music festival

A Day On The Green (ADOTG) is an iconic Australian music festival that is returning to the Yarra Valley this summer at Rochford Wines. ADOTG is a series of one-day festivals that happen throughout the season, and this year marks its eighteenth year running.

Performing this year at ADOTG in the Yarra Valley are household names, including Rodriguez and Bryan Ferry. We recommend booking your tickets as soon as possible to avoid missing out on these fantastic acts!
