Here at Melbourne on the Move, we have years of experience in showing people the sights, landscape, history and culture of Victoria. The area around Melbourne is rich in history stretching back to early Aboriginal civilisation, and there are countless places with an interesting past to explore. Whether you have a school group or a community of pensioners, we’re happy to arrange a fun and educational group outing. Depending on your group and your needs, you have two options in booking a historical tour with us:
Custom-Made Day Trips
If you have an excursion in mind, we can help you plan your itinerary as soon as you get in touch with our team. Maybe your school class is studying a particular era in local history, and you want to take them to a site of interest. Perhaps you have a group of adults who all share a passion for the past, and you want to custom-design a tour that focuses on a particular historic event or theme.
Why not take a trip to the picturesque Grampians National Park and stop at the longest-running Aboriginal cultural centre in Australia? At the Bambruk centre, you can learn about Aboriginal culture and history in a facility that is 100% Aboriginal-owned. More than just a historic site, the centre gives you the opportunity to join in with activities such as playing a didgeridoo or weaving using traditional methods.
Those interested in industrial history might like to head in the other direction to Gippsland, where they can go underground in The State Coal Mine and experience what life was like for a miner a century ago. Our Day Tours
We have several tours on our books that have an interesting historical angle. If you don’t have a specific destination in mind or you haven’t got enough people in your party to book a whole coach or minibus for a destination of your choice, then joining one of our pre-existing tours is your best bet.
Our Ballarat and Sovereign Hill tour takes in a reconstruction of what a gold-rush town might have been like, and you can get a real sense of how Victoria became the prosperous place it is today. The quick Puffing Billy Half-day Tour takes in one of Australia’s oldest railways and is an absolute must for train buffs. With our morning Puffing Billy tour, you will be back in Melbourne in time for lunch, so it’s perfect for busy business travellers looking for a fun morning outing to lighten up the trip.
If maritime history is more your thing, enjoy one of our tours along the Great Ocean Road, a route packed with beautiful scenery and steeped in fascinating local stories, including terrifying tales of the ‘shipwreck coast’.
