The Victoria Racing Club is the official host of the Melbourne Cup, and you can find all the information you need about the races from them. However, horse-racing doesn’t just happen once a year. Race Day Traditions

As you are probably aware, race day isn’t just about the horses. Plenty of people pay more attention to the outfits and hats worn by spectators than the races themselves. If you enjoy dressing up, this is certainly the perfect occasion to see and be seen. While there is no set dress code for general admission (only in the members area), attendees are encouraged to dress for a special occasion. Gents usually wear suits, while most of the ladies tend to stick to a classic formula: dress, heels and a hat or fascinator. Whatever you do, make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing; you are likely to be on your feet for a lot of the day.
