There are so many things to look forward to this summer. Beaches, sun and ice cream come to mind immediately, but have you considered attending one of Victoria’s famous music festivals this season? At Melbourne On The Move, we provide dedicated Melbourne bus hire for a number of festivals, making it even easier for you to enjoy the great music and good times this summer. Check out some of our top Victorian music festival picks in today’s blog.
A Day On The Green
A Day On The Green is not your traditional festival. Instead of a collection of performers hitting the stage over a day or two, ADOTG is more like a concert event. Its structure usually follows one big headlining act supported by a handful of incredible other performers. ADOTG usually spans over 5-7 hours and is held at a number of different venues over October to March each year.
Speaking of venues: did you know that ADOTG is typically held at some of Australia’s most beautiful wineries and outdoor venues? For Victoria, that includes Mt Duneed Estate, All Saints Estate, Mitchelton Wines, and Rochford Wines. The gorgeous natural settings provide the perfect scenery for enjoying picnics, wine, and the music, of course!
On this year’s list of ADOTG festival dates in Victoria, you’ll find many big-name performers, such as:
- John Farnham
- Daryl Braithwaite
- Florence + The Machine
- Billie Eilish
- Rodriguez
And that’s just to name a few! It’s not hard to see why ADOTG has become one of Australia’s most respected music events; this year marks its 17th year running, with an impressive 450 concerts held altogether since 2001.
One Electric Day
Living up to its name, One Electric Day is a single-day music festival happening on Sunday November 25th at Werribee Park. With plenty of food and drink options (including gluten-free and vegetarian), you’ll be set for a big day, from 11am when gates open to the end of the last act at around 7:15pm.
Get ready to rock out to your favourite Australian and New Zealander bands and artists that are on this year’s One Electric Day lineup:
- Jimmy Barnes
- The Angels
- Richard Clapton
- Ian Moss
- Jon Stevens
- Thirsty Merc
In 2018, One Electric Day celebrates its sixth year running, and sells out within minutes of tickets being released. In fact, all ticket allocations have already been exhausted for this year, but keep your eyes peeled for any resale opportunities via Ticketmaster.
Red Hot Summer
One Electric Day is not your only chance to see Jimmy Barnes and Richard Clapton this summer. Red Hot Summer is yet another fantastic music festival happening Australia-wide over January and February. Red Hot Summer stops over in both Ballarat and the Mornington Peninsula in late January 2019.
Performing alongside Jimmy Barnes and Richard Clapton this year at Red Hot Summer are:
- The Living End
- Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
- Diesel
- Chocolate Starfish
Red Hot Summer is another festival you can attend to see all six acts on the same day, from 1pm (when gates open), to the end of the final act at 9:20pm. Make sure you get in quick, though: tickets for the Mornington Peninsula show on January 19 have already sold out. There are still some spots left for the following Mornington Peninsula show on January 20, as well as the Ballarat show on January 27.
Mornington Peninsula Blues Sessions
For a more chilled-out music festival experience this summer, check out the Mornington Peninsula Blues Sessions. 2018 marks the seventh of the Sessions, highlighting its popularity among locals and city-dwellers alike.
This year’s performers include:
- Geoff Achison
- Lloyd Spiegel
- Chris Finnen
- Ross Wilson & The Peaceniks
- Phil Manning
The exciting lineup of both rock and blues can be enjoyed in the more intimate environment of the Mornington Peninsula Community Theatre. You’ll be able to sit down all night at a table, allowing you to relax and enjoy the music, food and drinks on the night.
Organise festival transport
There’s no need to stress about parking, traffic or public transport. If you’re planning to attend one of these festivals over summer, the best thing you can do is organise Melbourne bus hire to and from the venue.
