About Spilt Milk

Spilt Milk is (usually) an annual music festival that first ran in Canberra, in 2016. Since then, the event has expanded to two new destinations in Ballarat and Gold Coast. The festival is operated by Kicks Entertainment in partnership with Triple J and has hosted a variety of large Australian and international acts over the years. Popular Australian acts include DMA’s, Flume, Gang of Youths, Dom Dolla, Peking Duk, Vance Joy, Alison Wonderland & Angus & Julia Stone. Previous international acts have included Lorde, Khalid, Chvrches, Jax Jones, RL Grime, Vince Staples, and Juice WRLD (the rapper’s 2019 Spilt Milk performance was his last before passing.) Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) was originally slated to perform at the 2018 event, however, he had to cancel due to a foot injury.

2022 Spilt Milk Line-up

This year, the spilt milk line-up provides a combination of local artists, returning favourites and new international acts.

The Headliners:

Flume:

Flume burst onto the Australian electronic scene with his self-titled debut album in 2012. He is widely considered to be one of the pioneers of the ‘future bass’ genre and sound. After continued Triple J Hottest 100 and pop charting success thanks to collaborations with Vera Blue – ‘Rushing Back’, and Toro Y Moi – ‘The Difference’, Flume released his 3rd album earlier in 2022. The album, ‘Palaces’ received strong commercial reception, reaching a peak position of #3 on the ARIA Charts, with lead single ‘Say Nothing’ featuring MAYA also charting at #16.

Fisher:

Australian tech house producer Fisher dominated the club sound in 2018 with his tech house hit single ‘Losing It’ – now with 400 million streams on Spotify alone. Since then, he has gone on to become one of Australia’s largest house exports, releasing songs such as ‘You Little Beauty’ and ‘Just Feels Tight.’

Hayden James:

In 2022, indietronica/ house producer Hayden James released his sophomore album ‘LIFTED’ and embarked on an international tour spanning across North America and Europe. He recently performed his Australian leg of the tour, performing at Margaret Court Arena for his Melbourne show.

Mallrat:

Triple-J pop favourite Mallrat has received massive Hottest 100 success with songs such as ‘Groceries’ ‘Charlie’ and ‘Rockstar’ all placing within the top 10 of their respective release year. Her album ‘Butterfly Blue’ was released in 2022.

Spacey Jane:

Another Triple-J favourite, Western Australian indie rock band Spacey Jane released their second album ‘Here Comes Everybody’ in 2022 and reached #1 on the ARIA Albums chart. The album features songs such as ‘Lunchtime’ and ‘Lots of Nothing’, songs that placed #12 and #3 on the 2021 Triple J Hottest 100 respectively.

Stormzy:

UK rapper Stormzy is one of the largest and most popular Grime artists, with his 2017 album ‘Gang signs & Prayer’ being the first grime album to reach #1 on the UK Albums chart. He has received commercial success in Australia with charting songs such as ‘ Vossi Bop’ and ‘Own It’ in 2019.

The Wombats:

UK pop rock band the Wombats have had a strong Australian fanbase for over a decade now. They have many international hit songs such as ‘Greek Tragedy’, ‘Turn’, and ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division.
