To make the most of this spectacular day, we have prepared a guide which includes the history of the Rugby League World Cup, information about the day and advice on getting there.
The History of the Rugby League World Cup
The French Rugby League Federation first raised the idea of a Rugby League World Cup in the 1930’s. However, it wasn’t until 1953 that the rest of the International Rugby League Board (IRLB) accepted the proposal. In 1954, the first Rugby League World Cup took place, featuring four nations: Australia, New Zealand, France and Great Britain. Following huge success of the inaugural tournament, the Rugby League World Cup moved to Australia in 1957. That same year, the Australian Kangaroos claimed victory after progressing through the season undefeated.
